Vilken kvalitet

Jag har funderat mycket på de tygbitar som ska limmas fast på ledskenan. I förra inlägget menade jag att vilket tyg som helst kan användas, men det är nog inte helt sant. Om man ser till de bevarade tygbitar jag har hemma och sett bild på är det uteslutande ylletyger. Även om det fanns gott om syntetiska material på 1950-talet, inte minst i Saabs klädselsortiment, valdes ullen av någon anledning. Jag gissar att yllets egenskaper avgjorde, tyget behåller sina ljuddämpande kvaliteter även om det blir blött och kanske är vidhäftningsfårmågan överlägsen syntet vid limning mot plåt, vad vet jag, en gissning bara.

Ylletyg har jag gott om efter ha sytt historiska kläder i över 30 år. Men nog skulle det kännas fel att använda ett blått tyg som passar en svensk uniform model 1689. Det skulle vara ett motsvarande grått eller något annat neutralt som det på bilden. Men bäst vore att hitta nya delar av det tyg som används till remsorna i ledskenan men av Saabs ylletyg har jag ingenting. Så det blir att tänka lite till.

I have thought a lot about the pieces of fabric that will be glued to the guide rail. In the last post I meant that any fabric can be used, but that is probably not entirely true. If you look at the preserved pieces of fabric I have at home and have seen pictures of, they are exclusively woolen fabrics. Although there were plenty of synthetic materials in the 1950s, not least in Saab's upholstery range, wool was chosen for a reason. I'm guessing the properties of the wool were the deciding factor, the fabric retains its sound dampening qualities even when wet and maybe the adhesion is superior to synthetics when gluing to sheet metal, what do I know, just a guess.

I have plenty of woolen fabric after sewing historical clothing for over 30 years. But it would probably feel wrong to use a blue fabric that fits a Swedish uniform model 1689. It would be a corresponding gray or something else neutral like the one in the picture. But it would be best to find new parts of the fabric used for the strips in the guide rail, but I have nothing of Saab's woolen fabric. So there will be a little more to think about.
